The newest capital improvement to GYO Park is in the works. The outdoor Basketball Court is usable to the public!
This project is a big one and on-going. We are looking for help from our awesome community and local businesses to help continue the project. Companies who donate $250 or more are eligible to participate in the GYO Banner Sponsor Program - check out the Banner Sponsor page here online.
All cash or in-kind donations are fully tax deductible, as GYO is a registered non-profit 501(c)(3) organization.
PHASE I: Site clearing, leveling, compacting, adding aggregate
Due to COVID-19, our site work was slightly delayed, but we are pleased to announce that in the fall of 2020, Michael Palladino from Clean Canopy Tree Care graciously donated all tree-clearing and chipping! Thank you, Michael! Then, it was a group effort in November to start pulling stumps and further clearing the lot. We would like to send our sincerest thanks to Bobcat of NH for providing two machines for the weekend, and Brett Donovan for transporting a third machine to and from GYO Park. Shane Bruneau, Troy Scott, and Jay Reed dedicated their entire weekend to try to get as much done as possible. Also a big thank you to Hammer Down Farm for swinging by and donating some machinery and time and helping us relocate all of the stumps that we pulled.
We got a ton done for very short money (just $125!) but there is still more site work to do before we can start building. If you would like to help with this part of the project, please contact us.
PHASE II: Paving, striping, hoops, nets
GYO Basketball Court is actively in phase II and gaining. During the Fall of 2023, thanks to H&R Block and the H&R Make Every Block Better Grant through Be The Machine, we were able to have the court paved! The hoops were purchased from our supporters at DICK'S Sporting Goods and equipment and supplies for install were donated by Mascon. THANK YOU to the incredibly dedicated volunteers for the time and efforts in preparing and installing the hoops; Steve Snow, Kevin Brewer, Rudy Hawkins, Ryan Hawkins, Owen Hawkins, Sam Cahan, Stephen Bartlett and Adam Hawkins. Come Spring 2024, White Wolf Striping will line the court and phase II will be complete!
PHASE III: Fencing, landscaping and hard-scaping, finish work
Funding:
GYO's 2019 Golf Tournament and Car Show raised nearly $10,000, which is going to give us an awesome start to the site work and construction of the court. The GYO Board also applied for a grant from Greater Lakes Region Children's Auction at the end of 2019, and was awarded $5,000! All of us on the board want to thank the fine folks at the Greater Lakes Region Children's Auction for their hard work and dedication to helping all children of the Lakes Region, and for supporting GYO in its mission!
GYO began the process of applying for the H&R Block Make Ever Block Better program. With the approval of this grant, and the involvement of Be The Machine, GYO was funded $23,000.00. This gave us the opportunity to continue onto Phase II of the project during the Fall of 2023! Much gratitude goes towards the individuals and businesses involved throughout this entire project to make this dream into a reality for the community and GYO.
